Irish Government Raises Taxes on Wagers Made at Online Casinos

Ireland’s government has recently made known that it has completed its plans to raise taxes on all wagers that are placed on online casino games at Emerald Isle.  Moreover, a 15% tax rate increase will be charged to offshore companies when Irish bets are made.

The Irish Government proceeded to introduce the higher taxation rate as part of its Irish online gambling rule changes.  The new taxation rate will affect all bets that are placed in any of Ireland’s internet casinos and this is anticipated to result in a €20 million increase in a single year.

In his budget speech, Ireland’s Finance Minister said that before the taxation increase change, betting duties and taxes were only applied to wagers that were placed at gambling shops and offshore gambling companies, as well as telephonic or internet bets that were made by Irish players.
